You pour water and the steam comes back soft and wide instead of sharp and thin. That is what the outer cage buys you. The Cozy Heat is a wood burning sauna stove from Estonia, and the firebox sits inside an angular cage of diamond expanded steel mesh, packed with stones on every side. Heat leaves through rock rather than bare steel, so the room warms evenly and holds. The only routine jobs are emptying the ash box and restacking the stones once per year. It comes in two sizes: the COZY12 for home sauna rooms of 210 to 423 cu ft, and the COZY18 for 317 to 635 cu ft. Both are wood burning sauna heaters that install on the floor with no power and no wiring. Both are used with sauna stones and a chimney, and both of those are sold separately.

Most budget wood stoves give you a hot box with a shallow tray of rocks on top. The heat spikes and drops, and the löyly is weak because there is not enough hot rock to make it. Cozy Heat builds it the other way round: 243 lb of stone on the COZY12 and 353 lb on the COZY18, wrapped around the body rather than stacked above it.

Cozy Heat stoves are CE marked under the Construction Products Regulation 305/2011 EU, tested to EN 15821:2010 and BImSchV DIN EN 13240 level 2 by TUV SUD Industrie Service GmbH, notified body 0036, with a reaction to fire class of A1. That is European certification. They do not carry a UL, ETL or CSA listing. Many US and Canadian jurisdictions require a listed solid fuel appliance before an inspector will sign off, and some home insurers ask for the same. Check with your local building department and your insurer before you order. Lead time is 60 days from Estonia and these ship by LTL freight, so a permit problem found after delivery is an expensive one. If your inspector requires a listed stove, call us before you order and we will tell you which of the wood burning stoves we carry hold a listing for your area.

You can find a cheaper wood sauna stove. You cannot buy this one cheaper: Cozy Heat sets the price and every dealer holds it. What changes is what comes with the order.

The specs back that up. The COZY18 runs at 81.3% overall efficiency with a flue gas temperature of 234 °C / 453 °F, so more of the fire ends up in the room and less goes up the chimney. The COZY12 runs at 73.9%. Dust emission is 22 mg/m³ on the COZY12 and 35 mg/m³ on the COZY18. Both burn wood logs only, up to 30 cm / 11.8 in on both. Both are black steel with a 114 mm / 4.49 in flue that exits from the top.

Side clearance is where these fit rooms other stoves cannot. The COZY12 needs 6.7 in to the sides, 9.1 in behind and 19.7 in in front. The COZY18 needs 9.1 in to the sides. Allow 44.5 in of clear space above the COZY12 to the ceiling, and 52.8 in above the COZY18. The stove sits on the floor on a non-combustible base. Maintenance is the ash box after each session and a restack of the stones every 12 months, more often in a busy room.
