Product Benefits
The Cozy Heat SW is the tallest wood burning sauna stove Cozy Heat makes, and it carries the most rock. The COZYSW18 holds 397 lb of stone against 353 lb on every other 18 kW in the range. The cage is a barrel of vertical flat steel staves, wider through the middle than at the top and bottom. The COZYSW12 heats a home sauna room of 210 to 423 cu ft and the COZYSW18 covers 317 to 635 cu ft. Both are wood burning sauna heaters that install on the floor with no power and no wiring, and the only routine jobs are emptying the ash box and restacking the stones once per year. Stones and chimney are used with the stove and both are sold separately.
Steam is a function of how much hot rock you can throw water at. Every other stove in this range tops out at 353 lb on the 18 kW. The SW carries 397 lb, and it does it by going up rather than out, so the extra mass costs you 2.0 in of width on the 18 kW instead of a bench. If the thing you care about most is löyly, this is the one.
Cozy Heat stoves are CE marked under the Construction Products Regulation 305/2011 EU, tested to EN 15821:2010 and BImSchV DIN EN 13240 level 2 by TUV SUD Industrie Service GmbH, notified body 0036, with a reaction to fire class of A1. That is European certification. They do not carry a UL, ETL or CSA listing. Many US and Canadian jurisdictions require a listed solid fuel appliance before an inspector will sign off, and some home insurers ask for the same. Check with your local building department and your insurer before you order. Lead time is 60 days from Estonia and these ship by LTL freight, so a permit problem found after delivery is an expensive one. If your inspector requires a listed stove, call us before you order and we will tell you which of the wood burning stoves we carry hold a listing for your area.
You can find a cheaper wood sauna stove. You cannot buy this one cheaper: Cozy Heat sets the price and every dealer holds it. What changes is what comes with the order.
We check your ceiling height against the model before the order goes in. The SW is 32.1 in tall on the 12 kW and needs 44.5 in of clear space above it, so the ceiling check is the one that catches people out.
The specs back that up. The COZYSW18 runs at 81.3% overall efficiency with a flue gas temperature of 234 °C / 453 °F. The COZYSW12 runs at 73.9%. Dust emission is 22 mg/m³ and 35 mg/m³. Both burn wood logs only, up to 30 cm / 11.8 in on both. Both are black steel with a 114 mm / 4.49 in flue that exits from the top.
Height is the constraint on this one. The COZYSW12 stands 32.1 in and the COZYSW18 stands 34.3 in, which is 4.5 in taller than the equivalent base model. Add the 44.5 in or 52.8 in of required clearance above the stove and the SW needs roughly 6 ft 5 in of ceiling on the 12 kW and 7 ft 3 in on the 18 kW. Side clearance is unchanged at 6.7 in on the 12 kW and 9.1 in on the 18 kW. Maintenance is the ash box after each session and a restack of the stones every 12 months.
