Product Benefits

Most wood stoves are a box with rocks piled on the lid. The Cilindro is a vertical stainless steel cage packed with 264 lbs of stone from floor to top, with the firebox running up the middle. It is a floor-standing wood burning sauna stove made in Muurame, Finland, in two sizes. The Cilindro 16, part number WKPC16S, is rated 16 kW for rooms of 212 to 459 cubic feet. The Cilindro 20, part number WKPC20S, is rated 17 kW for 283 to 706 cubic feet. Both take the same stone load on the same 21.9 inch square footprint.

Heat leaves a conventional stove mostly through the top. In the Cilindro the fire is surrounded by stone on every side, so the whole column charges rather than just the crown. A rear ventilation duct pulls room air up through the cage while it burns. Water meets hot rock over a taller surface and keeps meeting it on the way down, giving longer, softer steam than a flat-topped stove of the same output.

Size by room volume. Multiply width by depth by height in feet. The Cilindro 16 covers 212 to 459 cubic feet, the Cilindro 20 covers 283 to 706. The numbers in the model names are series designations, not outputs, which is why the Cilindro 20 is rated 17 kW. Read the kilowatt figure, not the name. The 20 also takes a longer log, 39 cm against 35 cm, and its legs adjust through 30 mm for an uneven floor.

This is a solid fuel appliance and the safety distances are not negotiable. To combustible material both models need 19.69 inches at the front, 5.91 inches at each side, 7.87 inches at the rear and 39.4 inches from the top of the stove to the ceiling. To non-combustible material the two models differ: the Cilindro 16 allows 1.97 inches at side and rear, the Cilindro 20 needs 3.94 inches. Do not read one model's figure off the other. The floor must be non-combustible and able to carry the load. A concrete slab of 60 mm or more takes the stove directly. Anything else, including a tiled floor, needs the WL120 protection base, because tile adhesive and grout are not heat resistant. An unshielded smoke pipe needs 19.69 inches to combustibles, or 9.84 inches with the WZ020130 radiation shield. Chimney work is a job for a certified installer and is usually subject to local permit.

  • Harvia Cilindro Wood Burning Sauna Stove: a stone pillar with a fire inside it

  • Why the pillar shape changes the steam

  • Which size fits your room

  • Benefits and Features

  • 264 lbs of stone capacity on both the Cilindro 16 and the Cilindro 20

Specifications

  • BEFORE YOU ORDER: CLEARANCES AND FLOOR ARE THE DEAL BREAKERS

Ideal For

Off-grid and cabin saunas with no electrical supply to spare

Buyers who want fire and long, soft steam rather than push-button heat

Rooms from 212 to 706 cubic feet

Builds where a chimney already exists or is planned

NOT IDEAL FOR

Indoor rooms with no route for a flue

Combustible or tiled floors without the WL120 base

Anyone who wants scheduled or remote starting. This is a fire

Tight rooms that cannot give 19.69 inches of front clearance

Chimney and flue

Both models connect at 115 mm, take a flue pipe of 110 mm minimum internal diameter, and are rated to chimney temperature class T600. Maximum pipe length is 5 metres and the upper connection carries 50 kg. Confirm which connection your room needs before ordering pipe, because the parts differ.

Also Consider

If you want the same fire in a lower, wider body, the Harvia M3 is the classic box stove at 16.5 kW. If your room has power and you would rather not carry wood, the Harvia Virta gives a comparable stone column on electric heat.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between the Cilindro 16 and Cilindro 20? The Cilindro 16 is rated 16 kW for 212 to 459 cubic feet, while the Cilindro 20 is rated 17 kW for 283 to 706 cubic feet — both share the same 21.9 inch square footprint and stone load.

How much stone does it hold? Both sizes hold 264 lbs of stone packed floor to top around the firebox.

What log length does it take? The Cilindro 16 takes a 35 cm log and the Cilindro 20 takes a longer 39 cm log.

What clearances does it need to combustible material? Both models need 19.69 inches at the front, 5.91 inches at each side, 7.87 inches at the rear, and 39.4 inches from the top of the stove to the ceiling.

What floor protection does it need? The floor must be non-combustible and load-bearing; a concrete slab of 60 mm or more takes the stove directly, but a tiled floor needs the WL120 protection base.
